Red Screen Test Tool

Use this red screen to find dead red subpixels and stuck pixels, check color uniformity, or as a dim night light.

White Screen

Why use a White Screen?

This red screen tool shows a full-screen solid red (#FF0000) on any phone, laptop, monitor or TV. At pure red, only the red part of each pixel is lit, which makes it one of the best colors for finding faulty subpixels and checking color uniformity. It is also handy as a dim red light at night.

How to Test Your Screen with Red

    1. Turn brightness up and open the red screen in full-screen mode.
    2. Look slowly across the whole display. Every area should be the same even red.
    3. Note any black dot (a dead red subpixel) or any green, blue, white or yellow dot (a pixel stuck on another color).
    4. Compare with the green and blue screens to confirm which subpixel is faulty.

    What a Red Screen Shows

    • Dead red subpixels: each pixel is made of red, green and blue parts. If the red part has failed, the pixel looks black on a red screen but may look normal on other colors.
    • Stuck pixels: a dot that stays green, blue or white stands out clearly against red.
    • Uneven color: areas that look orange, pink or darker than the rest point to a color uniformity problem or a panel defect.
    • Color banding: on a solid color, visible bands or steps usually come from the display or graphics settings, not the content.

Other Uses for a Red Screen

Night Light That Protects Night Vision

Dim red light disturbs your dark-adapted vision less than white light. That is why astronomers and pilots use red lights at night. Turn your brightness all the way down and use the red screen to read a star chart or move around a dark room.

    Mood and Party Lighting

A red screen on a TV or monitor adds a warm red glow to a room, a photo set or a themed video.

Checking Color on a New Display

Comparing a red screen on two monitors side by side quickly shows which one leans toward orange or pink, which helps when matching monitors in a multi-screen setup.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my red screen look orange or pink?

Color settings, a warm color temperature, night light or a blue light filter can shift red. Turn those off and reset the picture settings. If only part of the screen looks different, it may be a panel uniformity issue.

Can a red screen fix a stuck pixel?

A static red screen does not fix stuck pixels. It only helps you find them. Some stuck pixels recover on their own over time.

Is a red screen better than a white screen for testing?

They find different problems. White is best for dead pixels and dust, while red isolates the red subpixels. For a full check, use all the colors in the tool, starting with the white screen test.
